Krishnamacharya
Tiramulai Krishnamacharaya (1888-1989) is the founder of our tradition. He is regarded as the most influential yogi of modern times. As well as studying, he practised as a yoga teacher and a healer.Krishnamacharaya is often referred to as 'the father of modern yoga' and is said to have 'brought yoga to the west'. Underlying Krishnamacharya's teachings was the principal 'to teach what is appropriate to the individual'. Through his students, including his son TKV Desikachar (author of The Heart Of Yoga), Indra Devi, K Pattabhi Jois (Ashtanga yoga) and his brother-in-law BKS Iyengar (Iyengar yoga), he has helped shape the understanding of yoga around the globe.
