YOGA MITRA

Yoga Mitra was started in 2015. Yoga teacher, Fiona Hardie, runs just two weekly classes at the Toorak studio; also teaching yoga, chanting and teacher training at Agama Yoga Centre in Middle Park. Agama is one of Melbourne's longest-standing yoga schools, and teaches in the tradition of esteemed yogi, Krishnamacharya. Agama’s Director, Barbara Brian, was a student of TKV Desikachar (son and student of Krishnamacharya), and so the teachings of Krishnamacharya are being passed on very directly to students at Yoga Mitra.  It is quite rare in Australia to have such a direct link to the lineage.

About Fiona

I have been practising yoga for years, and can't imagine life without it. I am an energetic person and yoga has helped me to focus that energy (not in the mind!). I like sharing what I've learnt with others. I plan each class individually: they're designed to lead you somewhere. I love chanting and trained as a vedic chant teacher at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandarim in Chennai, India. While you're in savasana (relaxing) I like to find a special chant to link with the intention of the class.

In addition to teaching yoga and chanting I am also a qualified yoga teacher trainer. I love teaching yoga students who are seeking to find out more - what lies behind the yoga they do in class. Asana (the physical practice of yoga) is only one very small part of yoga philosophy; that’s an exciting and intriguing discovery.

I return to the KYM in Chennai regularly to study and practice, and I enjoy bringing those teachings back with me.
