Workshop; The Philosophy of Yoga, Patanjali's Yoga Sutra
Join Yoga Mitra teachers, Ro Hancock and Fiona Hardie, to experience and learn more about the philosophy of yoga.
This three hour workshop will start with a regular asana class (the physical practice of yoga), followed by an introduction to the Yoga Sutra, the most ancient text of Yoga.
In the Yoga Sutra, Patanjali synthesised the oral teachings of centuries into a form that remains today the philosophical essence of yoga. The text is composed of 195 aphorisms (sutras) grouped in 4 chapters. The Yoga Sutra summarise the process and the tools for reducing suffering and increasing self understanding, bringing turbulent minds to peace, and more broadly paving the way towards harmony and social evolution.
From the Yoga Sutra we learn about the '8 limbs of Yoga'; of which asana (physical practice) is only one.
After a tea break we will return to explore some of the other 'limbs', concluding with a pranayama (breath) and meditative practice, allowing you to experience the potential of the mind and yoga.
